The Restarting of existing churches is an important part of the strategy to help declining churches. In Scripture, the word “rebirth” refers to new life, a change of heart, a new beginning, a fresh start or transformation. It is our desire to see dying and ineffective congregations or congregations who desire to transition to be more effective in reaching their community for Christ, experience this renewed surge of life in order to carry out the Great Commission of Christ. In consultation with the District Superintendent and/or Mission Development Director and with the approval of the appropriate district board(s), after much prayer, careful thought and analysis, a church may feel God leading them into a rebirthing process. When that happens, the District Superintendent and/or Mission Development Director enters into a conversation with the church board and/or congregation as a whole to explain the restart process.
